On this three day course you will learn the skills needed to create your very own stone sculpture to take home. Taught by Master Sculptors and Tutors within INStone, you will be shown how to use traditional carving techniques to shape your own piece of Portland Limestone into a detailed relief design or three dimensional form using templates and examples.
This CPD course is typically for construction professionals who wish to improve their knowledge of best practice in relation to the conservation and restoration of the masonry-built environment.
The course adopts a multidisciplinary approach and is designed for professionals involved in the conservation of historic stone structures. The primary goal of the course is to improve the practice of stone conservation by providing participants with a comprehensive understanding of the decay and deterioration of stone, advising on effective conservation practices, and ensuring that a practical understanding of appropriate remedial methods is achieved.
This course requires participants to have experience of the construction industry and is suitable for construction professionals or tradespeople involved in the general maintenance and upgrade of our Traditional building stock, and who wish to improve their knowledge of best practice in relation to the appropriate energy retrofit options for Traditional Buildings.
According to the Heritage Council, there are more than 175,000 buildings still standing in Ireland that were constructed before 1919. These buildings are very different from modern buildings and need to be treated differently.
During this three session course, participants will be guided through the process of preparing a traditional solid wall to be upgraded, understand the correct materials and workmanship required to thermally upgrade traditional walls, and finally other aspects of a heritage building which may be thermally upgraded in a safe and sympathetic manner.
